How my clients stop over eating and heal their relationship with food👇🏻

If you’re stuck in a cycle of binge-eating, followed by shame, guilt, disappointment and ultimately, restriction… you’re not alone.

It’s an increasing pattern I’ve seen in this industry and unfortunately, I believe the pattern is tied deeply to the societal narrative of, “hustle is the way to success.”

There’s an undercurrent of wounded masculine (‘sleep when you’re dead’) that I see circulating the internet, specifically social media.

This narrative is keeping us stuck, sick and burnt the fuck out.

Somewhere along the line we learned that we need to ‘earn’ success, love, connection, worthiness and our ‘enoughness’
And in order to be successful, loved, worthy and enough - we need to work hard and do things perfectly.

We know perfect doesn’t exist. We KNOW it. Yet we struggle so deeply to apply that knowing to ourselves and our own way of being.

We fear failure and avoid trusting ourselves at all costs. We avoid surrendering because it can feel dangerous, especially if it leads to something that we feel is ‘our fault.’

In this act of clutching at control - we create an impossible standard.

Many poor relationships with food stem from a deep desire for control. Controlling our food. Controlling our bodies. Controlling our training. Controlling our steps. Control control control.

Cue Elizabeth Gilbert — “You are afraid of surrender because you don't want to lose control. But you never had control; all you had was anxiety.”

Deep, huh?

But it’s entirely relevant to the relationship you have with food and your body.

Sometimes trying to control *everything* means you end up having control over *nothing*.

So, how do my clients stop over eating and heal their relationship with food ?
They surrender.

There’s quite a few new faces around here, so I thought I’d do a post so you get to know ‘Jessie’ a lil better and welcome you into my space! 🌈

1. I’m one of three - I have two older brothers.🕺🏼🕺🏻

2. I’m a Leo Sun, Pisces Moon, Gemini Rising + a Projector in human design (IYKYK lol) 🦁

3. I’ve needed glasses/contacts since I was about 11 years old up until last week - I finally got laser eye surgery and I can SEE BITCHES. 😎

4. I have two cavoodles called Willow + Franklin but at home they get called “Bon Squeenie” and “Frankie Doodle” 🐶🐶

5. I have two tattoos. I want more but I always get in moods where I’m like.. “I want one TODAY” but all good artists are booked months in advance, so I say “that’s too far away” and don’t book but then months pass and I could have had 10 by now l🤷🏼‍♀️

6. I used to suffer from Binge Eating Disorder and Body Dysmorphia - which is why I’m SO passionate about food relationships + body confidence now 💕

7. My favourite board game is Cluedo 🔍

8. I played tennis + did dancing for years growing up 🎾 👯‍♀️

9. I am SO sensitive to other peoples energies. I can usually tell if someone is down/flat/happy/has good intentions/is lying/feels insecure etc! It can be draining sometimes if I don’t prioritise boundaries. ⚡️

10. I was born with black hair and after it all fell out it grew back white blonde lol 👶🏼

I used to think if I was leaner I would be more loveable.

I had tied all of my self-worth, enoughness and level of beauty - to my size and weight.

I believed wholeheartedly that a smaller number on the scale would make me happier and that visible abs was the ticket to ‘belonging’

The reality is… all that is total.fucking.BS.👊🏻

I know what it feels like to:
👉🏻want to desperately want to lose weight
👉🏻have food + training consume your life
👉🏻feel like you need to burn off what you eat or “earn” a treat
👉🏻hate looking in the mirror
👉🏻be exhausted, moody and tired because you haven’t eaten much that day (on purpose)

If that’s you… it’s no way to live.
You are SO much more than your weight.

You are:
🦋The books you read
🦋The people you spend your time around
🦋The thoughts you have
🦋The hobbies you part take in
🦋The smiles you give
🦋The things you listen to
🦋The dreams + ambitions you have 
Dieting from a place of scarcity and low self-esteem, of eating chicken and broccoli, of spending hours on the treadmill is so 2016 👋🏻 BYE BITCH.  2021 is about:
💜Loving yourself
💜Getting strong
💜Doing inner work
💜Improving your fitness
💜Hitting PB’s
💜Realising you are enough
💜Unleashing your boss b*tch  
Let’s just say 2021 is a whole mood and I’m here for it. 😎

If you’re beginning your self-development journe

If you’re beginning your self-development journey, I hands down think creating a positive morning flow is the best ‘bang for your buck’ thing to implement.

Starting your day with “have to do’s” like getting ready for work, feeding the dog, replying to emails, packing the kids lunches, checking social media etc, can make you feel like you’ve lost ownership of your day. The day feels like it’s happening TO you, tasks are demanding of your energy and there’s pressure on you to DO stuff. Waking up this way can create feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiousness, confusion and irritability to name a few.

In comparison, starting your day with “get to do’s” like meditation, going for a walk, enjoying your coffee while journalling, breathwork etc, can make you feel like you’re the creator and key decision maker. The day feels like it’s unfolding FOR you, you flow from task to task and everything feels like your choice. This can promote feelings of calm, clarity, energy, gratitude, and happiness.

My current morning flow looks like:
🦋Wake up & write in my gratitude journal
🦋Make the bed
🦋Brush my teeth and do my morning skincare routine
🦋Make Oscar a coffee before he goes to work & then make myself a coffee (I’ve actually turned my morning coffee into a little pleasure ritual in itself)...☕️
I use oat milk, MCT oil, lions mane (mushroom powder) and @nakedharvestsupplements collagen
🦋I then sit down and do some journaling and it feels so powerful & grounding to journal and sip my little cup of goodness ✨

You don’t need to ‘believe’ you’re loved/w

You don’t need to ‘believe’ you’re loved/worthy/capable...

👉🏻You need to REMEMBER you’re loved/worthy/capable

It’s not about ‘becoming’ or learning that you are enough

It’s about remembering you are enough

I often put this scenario to clients…
Imagine you walked into a childcare centre.
There are babies and children.
Toddlers are running around the room squealing, giggling, painting, playing.
You smile at how happy they are.
I turn to you and say, “Point out the unworthy ones. Point to the children who are unlovable, the ones who just aren’t enough as the others.”
Your face would screw up in disgust, “they’re all equal; they are all loveable and they are all enough!” You’d tell me.
Which is true.

We are all born equally loveable, worthy and enough.
It’s just that somewhere along the line, through trauma, conditioning, experience, we LEARN that we are not enough.
We decide that we are unloveable because of X, Y, Z.

So this is your reminder,
🌈YOU.ARE.ENOUGH.🌈

Stop focusing on ‘believing’ in yourself and start focusing on simply remembering who the fuck you are 🔥

I used to despise failure.

I thought that if I set out to do something and it didn’t work out, it said something about ME as a person…
I’m a failure. I’m lazy and unaccomplished. I’m unworthy. I’m not important. I’m unloveable.

After a long term relationship ended, it got back to me that someone had said:
“Jessie changes her mind too much. Nothing is ever enough for her. She is always starting something new. She can never settle and so she will never be happy.”

I didn’t let anyone know it but these words near crushed me. Mainly because 90% of it was true.
It was true that I changed my mind a lot, that I always started new things and that I didn’t settle.
But the 10% that wasn’t true?
That being that way would mean I couldn’t be happy.

I became SO terrified of starting something, taking big risks or investing in myself because the thought of failing had me full of fear and dread.

But what I came to realise about my ‘failures’ is that;
They were never the end, they were merely a means to an end.
They were part of my JOURNEY and my growth.
Without the challenges and obstacles I’ve encountered… I wouldn’t be, well, me.

I didn’t know it at the time - but all of the things that didn’t work out were helping shape me into a more determined, compassionate, strong, resilient, powerful f*cking woman. I won’t ever settle. I won’t stop ‘failing’ (or as I like to say, growing). I will keep evolving every year, month, week, day, hour and second. Because I’m human and that’s what we do.

We are not supposed to fit inside small boxes - tucked away for safe keeping, forever unchanging, like we are made of glass and too fragile to be taken out of the box.

We are supposed to show up, try things, fall over, bruise our knees, dust them off, try again, learn, grow, love, fly and fucking BLAZE our own damn path.

So if you are reading this and you know you want more from life but you are…
Too scared to invest
Too scared to say yes
Too scared to commit
Too scared to try
Too scared to fail

Look fear dead in the eye and repeat after me:
“I was not born to stay in a box. I was born to fly. I am not made of glass. I am made of fucking fire!”

Remember, you don’t always have to know all the details and specifics to set goals or begin taking action.

I haven’t mapped my year out with precision yet. I don’t have clarity on my goals just yet. But I can FEEL into my vision and am taking bold, brave, aligned action towards it everyday 🦋

CYA 2020 👋🏻 you taught me to see the best in a bad situation. (And given ‘seeing the best’ sometimes felt impossible, you also taught me so much about surrendering). I learned to love harder, work smarter and above all, be grateful for the little things.
